Director of Golf - Shawn Costello, PGA

Shawn comes to us from St. Andrews Country Club where he worked alongside the Southeast Florida PGA President and Director of Golf, Paul Clivio.  Shawn is an accomplished professional having been the first one in the PGA of America to successfully complete every advanced certification offered.  He is the current Southeast Chapter Award Chairman for the South Florida PGA, and previously co-chaired the Education Committee for the Southeast Chapter of the South Florida PGA.  Shawn previously held positions at The Old Course at Broken Sound and was the Head Golf Professional at BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens prior to pursuing career advancements. While at BallenIsles, Shawn helped achieve record high member satisfaction scores for the Club, as well as the Association of Golf Merchandiser's Platinum Award, as well as being awarded a top 10 "best of the best" Golf Shop in the Country for private facilities.

Shawn is also a talented instructor having spent many years learning from PGA Hall of Fame Instructor Bob Toski and Shawn's father who was the Director of Golf and Coach at Cornell Universtity for three decades. While at BallenIsles, Shawn oversaw the BallenIsles Golf Academy and has taught touring professionals including World Golf Hall of Fame member Tom Kite and multiple PGA Tour winner Joey Sindelar.
 

Head Golf Professional - Dan Pendola, PGA

Originally from Rhode Island, Dan has been a PGA member since 2014 and has spent most of his career in New England and in Southwest Florida. He is PGA Certified Professional, specializing in Golf Operations. Dan is married to his wife Tiffany and they have two young children, McKenna and Nash. He started playing golf at the age of 13 and was a single digit handicap by the age of 15. Dan turned professional at the age of 20 and worked most recently as the 1st Assistant Professional at Audubon Country Club in Naples , Florida. He has worked as an Assistant Golf Professional at Shelter Harbor Golf Club in Rhode Island and Lake of Isles in Connecticut. He played professionally in the State Open circuit throughout New England and competed In the Nevada State Open in 2008.  He has learned under the tutelage of some of the best instructors in the world, including Hank Haney and Stan Utley.
 

First Assistant Golf Professional - Phillip Gabes

Phillip has been a member of the Boca Grove team since 2012. Born in upstate New York, Phillip moved to  Northwest Florida at an early age and was a standout baseball player. Phillip found his way to golf and graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a BBA in Finance in 2015. Phillip's passion for the game of golf was the driving force for his  decision to become a Golf Professional. Phillip is soon to be a PGA Class A Professional. He is also a TPI Certified Instructor and loves integrating that into his teaching. Phillip is married to his wife, Kali, and they enjoy spending time with their dog Sal.
 

Assistant Golf Professional - Justin Beaudu, PGA

 
Justin Beaudu comes to Boca Grove as a PGA Assistant Professional and a recent graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University, where he graduated with a double major in Hospitality and Professional Golf Management.  Throughout his studies, he held internships at Piping Rock Golf Club in Locust Valley, Long Island, Sands Point Golf Club in Sands Point, NY and most recently, the Pebble Beach Golf Resort, where he had the opportunity to be involved with hosting the 2019 United States Open.  Having had the privilege to serve these fine facilities, Justin has gained a great deal of experience and looks forward to serving the Membership at Boca Grove Golf & Tennis Club.  When Justin is not at work, he enjoys multiple sporting activities, as well as spending time at the beach.  

 
   

Director of Golf Course Operations - Rafael Barajas

Rafael Barajas joined Boca Grove at the end of 2015, bringing with him a total of 35 years in the golf industry. He has been a member of the GCSAA for 30 years and Certified Golf Course Superintendent for the past 25 years. He is the Past President of the Golf Course Superintendents of Southern California, Past President of the California Golf Course Superintendents Association and a board member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America for the past 5 years. Originally from Colima, Mexico, Rafael immigrated to the US at the age of 14, only knowing two words of English. He followed in his brother’s footsteps and worked as part of the maintenance crew at a municipal course in the San Fernando Valley. By the age of 20, he was the superintendent at the Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach, Calif. He spent the following six years in professional development courses and seminars about turfgrass maintenance and agronomy, eventually leading him to become a Certified Golf Course Superintendent in 1990. In the mid-1990’s Rafael became the superintendent at Hacienda Golf Club in Southern California, where he spent 20 years before coming to Boca Grove.
